How the per-second price is worked out
You are charged for the seconds of source video you upload, rounded up to the second, at the rate for its resolution class. A clip is charged at the 4K rate when its longer edge is above 1920 pixels or its shorter edge is above 1080, so 2560x1440 bills as 4K and 1920x1080 does not. The minimum charge on any conversion is $0.60, which is what a clip under one second costs.
What a real month looks like
Eight 15-second highlight clips at 1080p is 120 seconds, which is $72.00 at the pay-as-you-go rate and $57.60 on HDR-200. Thirty 8-second product shots at 1080p is 240 seconds, or $144.00 standard and $115.20 on HDR-200. One 45-second 4K drone sequence is $57.38 standard. The break-even against a plan is simply whether its monthly balance is less than what you would otherwise top up.
What you are not charged for
Failed conversions are refunded in full, automatically, and you are emailed when it happens. Uploads that never reach the queue are never charged. Re-downloading a finished file inside the seven-day retention window costs nothing, and neither does previewing, checking a result, or a job that stalls and is later found to have failed.
Choosing between a plan and topping up
Top up if your volume is irregular: the balance never expires, so nothing is lost in a quiet month. Take a plan if you convert regularly, because the rate reduction applies to every second you convert, not only to the balance the plan grants. HDR-50 cuts the rate by 8% and HDR-200 by 20%; HDR-20 is the standard rate with a monthly balance attached.
Billing, tax and invoices
Payments are processed by Polar.sh as merchant of record, which means Polar collects and remits VAT or sales tax and issues the invoice. Prices shown include applicable tax. Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time and remain active, with the tier rate applied, until the end of the period already paid for.
Questions people ask
Can I try a conversion before paying?
No. There is no free tier and no trial, which is also why there is no watermark on anything: nothing needs protecting. The smallest possible commitment is a $50 top-up, and the minimum charge on a single conversion is $0.60, so one short clip is a cheap test.
Am I charged for the source length or the output length?
The source. Duration and resolution are read from your upload, the price is calculated from those, and you confirm it before anything is charged. Output length always matches the source anyway, since nothing is trimmed or re-timed.
Can I get a refund on unused balance?
Balance is non-refundable once granted, and it never expires, so it stays spendable indefinitely. Refunds for individual charges are handled per the Refund Policy, and a failed conversion is refunded automatically without asking.
What currency am I charged in?
Balances are dollar-denominated. Subscription prices are shown in your local currency where Polar.sh supports it, and top-ups are USD only, because custom-amount prices do not support other currencies. The conversion rate you are charged is always the dollar rate.
