What to shoot for
Light for the highlight rather than away from it. In SDR the standard move is to flag or diffuse a specular reflection off glass or polished metal because it clips to flat white, and in HDR that same reflection is the thing worth keeping: it holds shape and falloff instead of becoming a blank shape. Expose so the brightest specular is just below clipping in the source, since anything already clipped stays clipped.
What to expect
Glass, chrome, gloss varnish, foil stamping and liquid surfaces are where this is obvious. Matte packaging, fabric and paper gain the least, because their brightest point is diffuse white and diffuse white is exactly what SDR already handles. A bottle with a rim light will look different; a cardboard box under soft light largely will not.

Almost no e-commerce product page serves HDR video, so the realistic destinations are your own site, YouTube, a brand social channel, or a screen at an event or in a store. Keep the SDR export for the listing itself. If the video will be embedded in a marketplace listing, the conversion is for the brand cut rather than the listing cut.

Will my product listing show the video in HDR?
Probably not directly on the marketplace. Most listing platforms re-encode to SDR. Use the HDR version on your own site and social, and keep an SDR export for marketplace listings.
Does this work for 360-degree product spins?
Yes, as long as the exported clip is 60 seconds or under and one of the accepted formats: MP4, MOV, or WebM.
Will the colors shift?
No. Color and luminance are remapped to use HDR10's extra range, not altered arbitrarily. Verify by checking the output file's color metadata.
Does it help with white or transparent products?
Transparent products yes, white products usually not. Glass and clear plastic carry specular highlights and internal refraction that HDR holds onto. A white product lit evenly sits at diffuse white, which is the top of the SDR range already, so there is nothing above it to release.
Can I convert a full product spin?
If it is 60 seconds or under. A 360-degree spin usually fits comfortably. For longer sequences, convert the segment where the light actually moves across the surface, which is where the difference is visible anyway.
